To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, Musicians Emeritus Symphony Orchestra (MESO) will perform a composition of the people, by the people, for the people.
Just what do you mean?
In the past, composers such as Beethoven or Tchaikovsky wrote their music based on their feelings and experiences. Take part in the Open Composition Project and YOU, the concert-goer, will compose for the first time a piece that we will perform next season.
The theme is Seattle, what this city has meant to you, what you mean to the city, and the good, the bad, and even the ugly memories you associate with the Emerald City. You can convey all of these in a series of .jpeg images that you can send to us: mesoseattle@gmail.com with “Open Composition” in the subject line. If words are your forte, write a paragraph or two in an email to the same address. Communicate to us the feelings, experiences, and memories that Seattle evokes in you and a composer will sort through all of your emails and translate them into an 8-10 minute "Overture to Seattle!".

The primary mission of Musicians Emeritus was best stated by founding director Stanley Chapple: ..."age is not, and never will be, a barrier to performance. Musicians Emeritus will give our senior citizens a chance to once more enter the enchanting field of music-making, and also act as a recreative force in their lives."
MESO strives to serve the local community through performing four free public concerts every season. In addition, MESO brings its music and performances before sixteen or so senior residences (retirement and nursing homes) each year.
A signature of Musicians Emeritus is the inclusion of youth performers at our public concerts (both as concerto-solo performers and as members of the orchestra). Displaying the magnificent musical talent of our local youth offers to our senior audiences a chance to realize that the future of classical music will continue to be in "good hands".
